What does a Pet Sitter do?
Pet sitters care for pets in their home environments, providing a low-stress alternative to boarding. This is more than just providing food and water. It also includes quality time, TLC, and watching for potential health problems.
Who uses our services?
Most people who need our assistance are busy professionals who travel or just need a little help taking care of their pet loved ones when their schedule keeps them from being home on time. Vacationers and others who want the peace of mind of knowing their home and pet loved ones are in good hands make up the rest of our clientele.

What makes you unique from other pet care providers?
TLC Pet Care Co. constantly strives to provide the best pet sitting possible so that you and your pet truly have the peace of mind you deserve when you are away. We guarantee reliable, quality, trustworthy service. We make every effort to make pet sitting as affordable as possible. We do not charge extra to administer meds. We allow cancellations in most circumstances up to 24 hrs. prior to service with no penalty. We also offer a great deal of flexibility in regard to scheduling and services. TLC Pet Care Co. ensures that its sitters are dependable, trustworthy, qualified animal lovers.
How do I get started with your service?
The first thing we need to do is schedule an in-home consultation. This enables us to get to know you and your pet. At the consultation, ee will gather all the information we need about your pet and your home. If you decide to move forward with TLC Pet Care Co., we will determine the types of services and corresponding rates that will best suit your needs. We will send a confirmation email asking you to sign a service agreement and to provide us with 2 copies of your house key at this time to avoid the key pick-up fee at a later date.
I have a dog(s). While I am out of town, how many visits do you make to my home a day?
We require a minimum of two visits per day, but prefer three. The reason for this is because twice a day (every twelve hours) is simply not enough for any dog. The three visits can be morning, dinnertime and once more before your dog goes to sleep for the night.
Can you visit my dog more than three times in one day?
Yes, we can visit as often as you would like.
I have a cat(s). How many visits would I need per day while I am out of town?
The minimum amount of visits we do for a cat is once every 24 hours. Many cat owners leave their cats for days at a time. It has been advised to us by area veterinarians that we visit cats a minimum of once per day. Why? Because a cat can become ill quickly and if more than 24 hours pass before they are checked on the cat could be seriously ill.
How much time do you spend at each visit with my pet?
The standard amount of time is 20-30 minutes. But if you would like us to spend more time just ask us and we will do that. Keep in mind though, there would be an extra charge.
How much notice do you need to care for my pets?
Obviously, the more notice the better. As soon as you schedule something that will require you to enlist our help, you should call right away. Even if it’s tentative, as long as you cancel with at least 24 hrs notice, there will not be a penalty. We understand that last minute things come up, and we always do our best to accommodate you at those times. But there is never a guarantee of availability for last minute requests. There is also an additional fee for visits scheduled with less than 24 hrs. notice. We do book up several weeks in advance at this point for our busiest times which are any times that involve a school break.
How long are the visits?
Each basic visit is 20-30 minutes. We will only leave earlier if requested. A possible reason might be if your cat gets more stressed the longer a stranger is in the house. In inclement weather, we will still stay the ½ hr but the outdoor time will be shortened and the remainder of the time will be spent indoors. We can also do extended visits. Refer to our rates for details.
Can you give medications?
We can administer oral and topical medications. Please work with us to show us the best methods to administer your pet’s meds.
Do you charge extra to administer medications?
No, we do not! It is included in the rate for the visit.
What is Pet Taxi?
This is transporting a pet from point A to point B, often to the veterinarian or groomer.
What is a Home Security Check?
Your sitter looks around the house, checking for things that are out of place (e.g., broken windows or other signs of forced entry).
How is payment handled?
You may pay by cash or credit card. Payment is to be made prior to or at the beginning of service. If you are a daily dog walking client, you will be asked to make payments weekly.
How are keys handled?
When you begin service with us, we require that you give us two copies of your house key. One will be kept in the office for emergency use. The other will be with the sitter then kept in the office when not in use. We recommend that you allow us to keep both keys to facilitate future service. We will return keys to you and pick them up at later dates but there is a fee of $15 each time. We will not leave keys in your home on the last visit, thereby locking ourselves out, in the event you are delayed in returning home.
What is done to protect my privacy?
TLC Pet Care Co. takes great care not to violate client confidentiality.
- Keys are not labeled with your name or address, and are kept in a safe when not in use.
Your personal information (e.g., telephone number, address and email) is not distributed for any purpose to any outside agency.
What do you do in case of an emergency such as sick pet sitter or severely inclement weather?
In the event of a sick pet sitter we will notify you ASAP of any previously determined backup accommodations made. In the event of severely inclement weather we may try to contact a neighbor you’ve listed as an emergency contact. If we are unable to reach someone, we will make it to your house. Your pet may have to wait a bit longer than usual if it’s too much of a risk at the time the visit is scheduled to be out on the roads.
Do You Have References?
Yes. We are happy to provide references upon request.
Can I call or email for updates on my pets?
Yes, we understand how important it is for you to know your pets are doing well. We send daily status update texts. We are happy to respond to phone calls or emails.
Can I use a friend or neighbor in combination with your service when I am away?
We do not share responsibilities with anyone else. This is for your pet’s and your home’s safety. We are insured and bonded and cannot be held responsible for the acts of others while they are in your home if a problem arises. Our insurance protects you should there be an incident of negligence that involves your pet or property but may be null and void if there is a question of who is at fault. Common problems of job sharing include miscommunication regarding feedings, medications, locking doors, keys, etc. If you plan to have someone else in your home, please discuss this with us at the time of booking.
What precautions do you take to ensure the security of my home and how do I know I can trust you?
We are bonded and insured for your protection. All of our sitters are covered on the policy. Our sitters are screened prior to hire. Your personal information will always be kept confidential. Your keys do not have your name or address on them. We lock your home every time we leave. We frequently work with alarm systems. Our sitters are familiar with most systems and can keep your house alarm engaged. We can provide crime-deterring measures such as rotating lights and raising and lowering blinds.
What is Bonding?
We know that we are trustworthy and reliable, as are those whom we trust to act in our name, but we realize that to the client we are strangers. Bonding is our assurance to you that TLC Pet Care Co. is a responsible company and holds itself accountable for the actions of its agents. It is a type of insurance agreement that guarantees reimbursement to the client for any financial losses caused by fraudulent or dishonest acts by company representatives. Examples include theft, embezzlement, or forgery.
What does Insurance cover?
This is another way in which TLC Pet Care Co. shows responsibility for the actions of its agents. Insurance covers any accidental damage that may occur to your property during the course of normal service. For example, if a pet sitter were to break your window while rendering service to a pet, Insurance would cover the damages.
What is PSI?
This is an organization that advocate the welfare of animals, promote pet sitting to the public, and help pet sitting organizations network. It has a code of ethics and standards of conducting business that members must adhere to. Our membership in PSI (Pet Sitters International) shows that TLC Pet Care Co. agrees with these ethics and holds itself accountable to them.
